Electric mobility startup Matter has launched its Aera 5000+ geared electric motorcycle in Mumbai, following successful rollouts in Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Pune.

Designed and built in India, the AERA brings HyperShift, a 4-speed manual gearbox developed specially for electric motorbikes. Riders can now enjoy the feeling of changing gears, something they’ve always loved in petrol bikes, with the smooth performance of an electric.

Key Features of the AERA 5000+:

  • HyperShift gearbox – 4-speed manual transmission with 3 ride modes, giving riders more control and flexibility
  • Liquid-cooled powertrain – Keeps the motor running smoothly, even in hot or crowded conditions
  • Smart 7” touchscreen dashboard – Offers navigation, ride stats, music, and wireless updates
  • 5kWh battery pack – Certified range of up to 172 km, IP67-rated for protection against water and dust
  • Fast pick-up – Goes from 0 to 40 km/h in under 2.8 seconds
  • Safety and comfort – Dual disc brakes with ABS, dual suspension, and park assist
  • MATTERVerse mobile app – Includes live tracking, remote lock/unlock, ride history, and geo-fencing
  • Smart key – Allows keyless starting and unlocking
  • Low cost to run – Just 25 paise per kilometre, saving up to ₹1 lakh over three years in city riding

“Mumbai doesn’t slow down. It’s bold, quick-thinking, and always ahead. That’s why this city is special to us,” said Mohal Lalbhai, Founder & CEO, MATTER. “AERA is built with the idea that riding should be exciting and efficient. With our gearbox, a liquid-cooled engine, and smart features, it gives riders both fun and savings.”

The AERA 5000+ is also India’s first electric bike to come with a Lifetime Battery Warranty—giving Mumbaikars one less thing to worry about, whether they’re riding through weekday traffic or weekend getaways.

MATTER’s approach focuses on developing everything in-house—from the powertrain to the battery. This gives them full control over quality and performance. By keeping things local, MATTER is creating an electric motorbike that’s ready for Indian roads, weather, and riding styles.

To give riders a closer look, MATTER is also opening a new Experience Centre at Saki Naka Junction, Andheri. This space will allow people to test ride the bike, explore features, and get a feel for how the AERA performs—online and in person.
