Fujifilm Electronic Materials, a Japanese supply chain major, announced on 4th September 2025, that it is keen to set up a factory in India. The company, which supplies semiconductor materials used in wafer processing to global clients such as TSMC and GlobalFoundries, revealed that it is planning a facility in Dholera, Gujarat, marking its first large-scale investment in the country.

While the final investment plan is yet to be confirmed, Fujifilm is currently evaluating three potential approaches: establishing its own production unit, pursuing licensed manufacturing with Indian firms, or entering into a joint venture with semiconductor makers. This was stated by Tetsuya Iwasaki, General Manager of Fujifilm’s Electronic Materials Business Division, on the sidelines of the Semicon India 2025 event.

Iwasaki noted that Indian semiconductor companies have responded positively to these proposed collaborative models. Highlighting India’s strong advantages, he said the country possesses technological expertise, skilled manpower, and rapidly increasing demand for chips across sectors such as automotive, electronics, data centers, and module packaging. These factors, he emphasized, make India a highly promising hub for the semiconductor industry.
