A new homegrown artificial intelligence (AI) chip, designed by innovators from an IIT, was officially unveiled today at the T-CHIP Semicon Summit in Hyderabad. The chip is part of India’s push toward semiconductor self-reliance, and is claimed to be fully developed using indigenous technology in Telangana.
According to statements made at the summit, Dinesh (an IIT-affiliated entrepreneur) asserted that this is India’s first AI chip built purely with Indian technology and manpower, and that its manufacturing was carried out in Telangana.
Beyond the unveiling, the summit included a novel initiative dubbed Pitch2Press, in which 111 innovators presented their ideas not to investors but to journalists — aiming to generate media visibility and public engagement with emerging technologies.
Observers see the announcement as a milestone in India’s ambition to build an integrated semiconductor ecosystem — from chip design to local fabrication — reducing dependence on foreign supply chains.
