
Samsung Electronics, along with Samsung SDS, Samsung C&T, and Samsung Heavy Industries, has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with OpenAI to accelerate advancements in global AI data center infrastructure and co-develop future technologies across multiple sectors. The collaboration highlights the central role of Samsung’s semiconductor leadership in driving this initiative forward.
At the signing ceremony held at Samsung’s corporate headquarters in Seoul, Korea, senior leaders including Young Hyun Jun, Vice Chairman & CEO of Samsung Electronics; Sung-an Choi, Vice Chairman & CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries; Sechul Oh, President & CEO of Samsung C&T; and Junehee Lee, President & CEO of Samsung SDS, formalized the agreement alongside OpenAI.
As part of the partnership, Samsung Electronics will serve as OpenAI’s strategic memory partner, supplying advanced semiconductor solutions to support OpenAI’s global Stargate initiative. With OpenAI’s projected demand reaching up to 900,000 DRAM wafers per month, Samsung will leverage its extensive lineup of high-performance, energy-efficient DRAM to address these massive computing requirements.
Beyond memory, Samsung brings its comprehensive semiconductor expertise across memory, logic, and foundry technologies, providing end-to-end support for the AI lifecycle from training to inference. The company’s differentiated strengths in advanced chip packaging and heterogeneous integration of memory with system semiconductors will enable OpenAI to scale efficiently while optimizing power and performance for next-generation AI workloads.
The partnership further integrates Samsung’s broader ecosystem capabilities spanning data centers, shipbuilding, cloud services, and maritime technologies, positioning the alliance as a transformative force in shaping the infrastructure of the global AI era.
