The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved seven projects worth ₹5,532 crore under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) to strengthen India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Out of these, five projects are located in Tamil Nadu, and one each in Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. The projects will be led by private players, eligible for 1–10% incentives on production value over a six-year period, depending on component category and operational year.
Kaynes Circuits India Pvt. Ltd., headquartered in Mysuru, will invest ₹3,280 crore to establish facilities in Chennai and Thoothukudi for manufacturing printed circuit boards (PCBs), camera module sub-assemblies, and laminates. Nearly 87% of its investment will go toward PCB and laminate production.
“Currently, polypropylene films and copper laminates are imported, and these new units will enable 100% domestic fulfillment of demand,” said IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, adding that the initiative is expected to generate ₹44,406 crore in production output and create 5,195 new jobs.
Other beneficiaries include SRF Ltd. (Madhya Pradesh), Syrma Strategic Electronics Pvt. Ltd. (Andhra Pradesh), and Ascent Circuits Pvt. Ltd. (Tamil Nadu), which will invest ₹991 crore to set up a PCB manufacturing unit.
IT Secretary S. Krishnan emphasized the need for quick project execution, stating, “It’s very important that these units get off the ground quickly because time is of the essence.”
Highlighting the broader impact, Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairperson of the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), noted that domestic value addition in India’s electronics manufacturing will continue to rise with the development of design capabilities.
