Ola Electric is once again signaling interest in the electric passenger vehicle market, after pausing its car project last year to prioritise mass-market electric scooters. The company has now filed a patent for a compact electric car, indicating renewed plans to enter the electric four-wheeler (E4W) space.

This development aligns with Ola’s long-term strategy unveiled at its Sankalp 2025 event, where it introduced the Gen 4 modular platform—an architecture designed to support a range of vehicles including scooters, three-wheelers, and compact electric cars. The shared-platform approach is expected to help Ola scale efficiently across segments.

Early patent sketches reveal a five-door compact hatchback, placing it in direct competition with the MG Comet EV, Tata Tiago EV, and the VinFast Minio Green (patented in India and likely to arrive later). The design appears to focus on urban convenience, futuristic styling, and affordability—consistent with Ola’s brand positioning.

The upcoming model may also incorporate Ola’s newly showcased 4680 series battery cells, manufactured locally, which could enhance performance and cost competitiveness. Expected to debut within the next few years, the compact EV would allow Ola Electric to expand into a complete EV product lineup, covering two-, three-, and four-wheeler categories.
