
At the inaugural Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference, held in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Mr. Ono Keiichi, Ambassador of Japan to India, held a one-to-one meeting with the Chief Minister on the opening day of the event.
Chief Minister Patel noted that Japan has been a partner since the very first Vibrant Gujarat Summit, and expressed delight that Japan’s participation in this new regional edition has further deepened the long-standing partnership between Gujarat and Japan.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ono conveyed his gratitude to the Government of Gujarat for its continued support of Japanese industries operating in the state. He particularly commended the mutual cooperation in semiconductors, automotive, advanced technology, and renewable energy, along with growing people-to-people ties between Japan and Gujarat.
Chief Minister Patel emphasized that Japanese companies are increasingly attracted to Gujarat’s semiconductor ecosystem and are moving ahead with plans to establish manufacturing facilities in the state. He reiterated the government’s full support for their expansion.
Ambassador Ono also discussed the development of essential social infrastructure in Dholera, including hospitals, schools, logistics networks, and power projects, to facilitate the growth of industries such as semiconductors. The Chief Minister confirmed that these key infrastructure projects are scheduled for completion by June 2026.
The Ambassador highlighted Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) contribution to the Gujarat Semiconductor Mission, particularly in launching training programs to build a skilled local workforce. Chief Minister Patel added that the state has initiated similar skill development programs for other industries through institutions such as Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU).
He also shared that the state government has streamlined the land allocation process to further assist Japanese companies in setting up operations.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Shri Pankaj Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri M.K. Das, Principal Secretary of Industries and Mines Ms. Mamta Verma, and Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Smt. Avantika Singh, among other senior officials.
