Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit in Tokyo yesterday during his two-day official visit to Japan, at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
The two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral ties and discussed ways to strengthen the Special Strategic and Global Partnership, which has grown steadily over the past 11 years. Several MoUs were signed to deepen cooperation in key areas such as defense and security, trade and economy, technology, and innovation.
On arrival at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Prime Minister Modi was welcomed warmly by members of the Indian diaspora, who greeted him with chants and cultural performances including Kathak and classical music.
Ahead of the summit, the Prime Minister also attended a business event hosted by JETRO (Japan External Trade Organisation). JETRO’s Executive VP, Kazuya Nakajo, noted that Modi’s visit came at the right time, highlighting that over 80% of Japanese companies in India plan to expand operations within the next two years.
Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that his visit would further advance bilateral cooperation, particularly in emerging technologies such as AI and semiconductors, while also deepening cultural and civilizational ties between the two nations.
Following the Japan visit, PM Modi is scheduled to travel to China to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, where he will meet global leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
